  • Radio Caroline begins regular broadcasting at noon on 197.3 metres from the 'pirate' ship anchored off Felixstowe, UK. It is the beginning of pop radio in Great Britain. (listen here).
  • London waxworks museum Madame Tussaud's unveils life-size figures of The Beatles, the first pop group to be immortalised in the museum. The figures were later used on the Sgt. Pepper album cover. (BB)
