    • twenty years after ABBA took their song I Have a Dream to no.2 in the UK, boy band Westlife are the Christmas no.1 with a cover version b/w another cover version, Seasons in the Sun, a 1974 hit for Terry Jacks and the English language version of Jacque's Brel's Le Moribond, originally issued in 1961.
    • Westlife send Cliff Richard's Millennium Prayer down to no.2, while a re-issue of John Lennon's Imagine also reflects the end of the millennium mood entering the charts at no.3. The single had originally reached no.6 on its initial UK release in 1975 and then no.1 in January 1981 in the wake of the artist's brutal death.[2]
    • Cuban Boys, S Club 7 and Steps continue the dance trend, all going straight into the Christmas Top 10.
